A website is a great way for a charity to spread awareness, from giving tips to net surfers or getting generous donations. at islandchild.org you can find background information about the charity, look at image gallery even find out people they are associated with.
before we started the website we made sure that these options will be available for access
= Home | About Us | Gallery | links | Media | Supporters| Donate.
here is a rough sketch of the website map..
here is the a set of the very first layout we did, using adobe fireworks.
decided to add phrase "nurturing the inner child" so people don't get confused about the charity thinking its all about children. The image banner was a good choice image of the little girl brightens up the page.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECOND LAYOUT.
After a meeting with Karla and Danielle we decided that the logo needed to stand out more and the colour on the page was a bit 'industrial', we also needed a DONATE section
here we have the second layout with improvement in the banner (also a potential layout is added) we placed it on the top left corner because its the first image to load on a page so the first thing you see is the island child logo!
although the donations section is yet to be added we wrote along the lines of how it was going to look like
we worked on some bright eye catching buttons!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOME LAYOUTS WE TRIED OUT
we really like the girl holding umbrella image so we kept it through all the layouts. Tried to add colours from the logo as well!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the final product!!!
we added colours from the logo into the background, navigation bar, and sub headings.
the DONATE button was originally orange but it was kinda random compared to everything else..although it would have been perfect to catch viewer's eyes!
here is a screen shot of the homepage again but the donate section lights up when u put your mouse over it! :o

the only thing different is image gallery, we chose a page from other layouts we tried out!
We recommended her to get Adobe Fireworks as it will be better for her in the long run so she wouldn't have to pay someone every time and we also made a promise that we would go over to her house and teach her the basic of how to update her website!
here are the rest of the pages...

About Us

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
with the final website we made sure that it was:
+ Donor-Friendly: We made a donations page and listed the possible ways people could donate!
instead of signing up a paypal account which you would have to pay fees, Danielle made an account at www.givealittle.co.nz, where people could easily log on and make online payments! it was also cost effective for Danielle as it was totally free!
+ Volunteer Friendly: On the donations page there are contact details and information on how you can help out the charity.
We found some non-profit websites that we tried to follow
what we liked about them was the simplicity, everything is in proportion and nothing stands out randomly.
